How Do I Care For My  Granite/Marble Countertops?

Step 1: Know Your Stone

In order to take care of your countertops properly, you need to know what kind of stone it is. Is it granite, marble, soapstone, travertine, quartzite or semi-precious? Not all stones are created equal and that will determine how you will maintain and care for your new or older stone countertops.

Step 2: Cleaning Procedures

Stone surfaces should be cleaned with stone soaps or other neutral  cleaners and they can be found at your big box stores and online. Mild liquid dishwasher detergent or soap is best to be used with warm water. Make sure you use an appropriate amount of soap as too much detergent will leave a a film that causes streaks.  The surface should be rinsed thoroughly and dried with a soft cloth. You should establish a schedule for the cleaning of your countertops.
